Classes at Midwest Shorin-Ryu
Health & Wellness Center

At Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health & Wellness Center, we believe that everyone can benefit from organized exercise and training, whether it is karate training or chair yoga. We have something for all ages and abilities.

Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu Karate

Shorin-Ryu is one of the two original Karate styles formally systematized in Okinawa and is believed to have had the most influence on the development of all modern Karate systems.

Training at Midwest Shorin-Ryu emphasizes focus, form, and strength through flowing movement. Our style of Shorin-Ryu, "Suiryushindo", translates into "Way of Heart Flowing Water". Nothing can hold back water when it becomes active, and our self-defense techniques employ that philosophy.

We offer classes in the following age classifications:

Wee Warriors - Ages 5-8

Juniors - Ages 9-12

Adults& Teens - Ages 13 and up.

All classes are taught by black-belt level instructors with more than 15 years experience.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art that was developed for self-defense and combat. While it is customarily practiced as a gentle exercise, each movement has martial arts applications.

Tai Chi aims to balance the body's energy for physical and mental health benefits. Its slow, flowing movements, meditation, and deep breathing help lead to better balance, mobility, and coordination.

Tai Chi, also know as Tai Chi Chuan, has many forms of practice. In the mid-1950's, the Chinese Tai Chi masters developed a standardized version that includes 24 postures.

At Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health & Wellness Center, we believe that Tai Chi is a very mindful and meditative exercise that helps improve fitness and build strength through practice.
